‘Nohona’ (Na-ho-na) is a Hawaiian word that translates into a few words in English: Life, Dwelling, Living, Way of life. But my favorite definition, and the reason I chose it for my coaching business, is “a worthwhile existence.” This can have a different meaning to everyone but the unveiling and pursuit of your ‘Nohona’ is surely something we should all be striving for.

Think of a Transformational Coach as a person, professionally trained to promote, in others, sustainable wellness and change. Coaching explores who you really are, delving deep to understand why you behave and think the way you do. Coaching looks at what you want from life, what’s going on inside your head, and how you can start making changes that bridge the gap between your current circumstances and the life you’d like to lead. 

Goal setting and seeking solutions are part of coaching, but the most powerful aspect is the understanding and exploration of yourself and your life – looking at your beliefs, fears, thoughts, assumptions, and behaviours. It can give you real awareness and clarity on negative patterns that could be standing in the way of your success. 

You know that self-talk that we all do? Those voices in our head that can be anything from very supportive, to critical, to casting doubt on our abilities… well it challenges that as well!

Transformational coaching involves deep listening, holding space for the client, observing and identifying, questioning, reflecting back, challenge and accountability. I incorporate many different approaches in my coaching style including NLP, CBT, Transactional Analysis, Behavioural Analysis, and tried and tested Transformational Coaching techniques. 

It improves your self-awareness and allows you to see yourself afresh. It facilitates profound change. You have all the answers you need inside of you – coaching will help them come to the surface.

No is the simple answer. Counseling and therapy tend to focus on the past and present and deals with some kind of problem associated with that – usually of an emotional or mental health nature.  Coaching focuses on the future with the odd little jaunt into your past to gain insight where relevant.

1:1 coaching sessions last for 1 hour. I normally conduct them over Zoom so you would need to have access to a device and be somewhere quiet, comfortable and where you won’t be disturbed. I can hold sessions at a time that works for you – whether that is early mornings, evenings, or weekends.

We just talk, and I listen, reflect, question, enquire and challenge. There is always intent for the session that we set at the start depending on what you feel you need to focus on. It is so important that at the end of the session you feel it has made a difference, that you have made progress, gained more clarity and insight, and have some actions you need to take forward.

I always make notes and your Client Record will be updated with a detailed account after each session. We always establish what additional support you feel you need between sessions (phone, email, messages) and how accountable you want me to hold you for your actions!

I can also do phone sessions (although seeing you is very important as body language is such a key part of communication), walking sessions, or face-to-face sessions depending on your preference and location.

The time is yours. I hold the space for you. It is my job to manage that time and make sure we reach an outcome. So often, just having that dedicated and protected time for yourself can create massive changes and insights. Sessions feel so very personal, deep, and powerful.

The course is accredited by the world’s leading coaching bodies, the International Coach Federation, the European Mentoring & Coaching Council, and the Association for Coaching, and is recognised across the world for its rigour and standards.

I also undertake continued professional development, constantly striving to improve my knowledge, and techniques and keep up-to-date with the industry.
